3. (20 pt.) Data were obtained from flow measurements of a vertical section of old, corroded pipe of D = 50 mm inside diameter made of galvanized iron, with the purpose to determine its roughness. At one section of the pipe the pressure was Pig 750 kPa (gage); at a second section, 40 m lower, was measured p2g = 250 kPa (gage). The volume flow rate of water was 0.015 m³/s. Estimate the relative roughness e/D of the pipe. What percent saving in pumping power would result if the pipe were restored to its original roughness of e = 0.15 mm? Assume water density p= 998 kg/m³ and viscosity µ 0.001 Pas. =
