Problem 2: The city of Roswell has been directed to upgrade its primary WWTP to a secondary plant that can meet an effluent standard of 20 mg/L BOD and 25 mg/L suspended solids (SS). They have selected a completely mixed activated sludge system. The existing primary treatment plant has a flow rate of = 0.020 m³/s. The effluent from the primary tank has a BODs of 212 mg/L. Using the following data, estimate the required volume of the aeration tank. (3 points) 1. BODs of the effluent SS is 65% of the allowable SS concentration. 2. Growth constants values are estimated to be: K. 100 mg/L BODs, m= 10 d'¹, = k4 0.025 d-¹; Y=0.80 mg VSS/mg BODs removed. 3. The design MLVSS is 3,200 mg/L.
