Question Three (a) The sketch right represents the profile of a mountain- side up which it is proposed to build a cable-way connecting points A and B. These points have altitudes of 13 m and 298 m above sea level, respectively. The angle of elevation of B from A is 25°. BC is the vertical height through which the cableway raises the passenger car, and is perpendicular to horizontal AC. i. Determine the vertical height BC. 250 ii. Find the straight-line distance AB, which the cableway is to cover. [10 marks] (1 mark) (2 marks) iii. The cableway is to run two cars simultaneously, one ascending and the other descending, on a continuous cable looped around pulleys at A and B. Find the length of cable needed if 14% more is required than twice AB. (2 marks)
