FOR DIGITAL FORENSICS CLASS:
This assignment should be a page or two long, maybe a littlelonger depending on how big your images are. Select any hard driveat your disposal – a laptop or desktop HDD, a removable drive, anold hard drive you have lying around somewhere, a USB stick,whatever you have.
Instructions
Describe the media in as much detail as you can. Tell methe manufacturer, the part number, the serial number, etc. Isit a spinning disks type of drive or an SSD? What’s thecapacity? What is the sector size? What is the cluster size? What file system does it use?
Show me screenshots if you can, and/or pictures of the outsideof the drive.
Treat this as though you were writing it for a formalreport. Your role is to collect and catalog the evidence asthough it may be used in a case. Note that in a real case,you would use write blocking and other techniques we haven’tlearned yet, and you would establish a chain of custody. Forthis assignment, don’t worry about evidence spoliation or chain ofcustody. If you need to access the drive to get information on thedisk geometry and file system, go ahead.
