(3 marks) b) Figure Q5 overleaf shows a diagram for an epicyclic gear train, which is employed in a gas turbine engine to transmit power from the engine to the aircraft's auxiliary equipment. Power is supplied to wheel 3 and is delivered to a load attached to the epicyclic arm, body 2. Wheel 5 is fixed to the gear case, body 1. i) Determine T. if t3-20, t4-36 and ts = 60. ii) Show that iv) 031 -1³ and evaluate co21 if con1 = 1200 rad/s. (1 mark) (6 marks) Determine the fixing couple that must be applied to wheel 5 if the gear train transmits 36 kW. (6 marks) Find the tangential force at the pitch point between wheels 3 and 4 if the module is 10 mm and there are three sets of compound wheels. (4 marks)
