One failing of an encryption system occurs if we never let theencrypted value of a letter be the same as the original, especiallyif a letter always encodes to the same value. Let’s see how we canexploit these weaknesses. Let’s assume that we know that the wordWHICH is somewhere in the intercepted message. If we received thefollowing transmission, what are the encrypted values (i.e., givethe mappings) of the letters W, H, I, C (i.e., W -> ?, H ->?, I -> ?, and C -> ?) 5ITVRCD7CVR5TVPV75IO.
To test your detective skills, what is the exact originalmessage that was sent (if there is are blanks in the message, please denote with an underscore)?
Hint: It’s a simple cipher … look for a unique pattern in WHICHand because you are told that a character never encodes to itselfand that a character always encodes to the same value, you canexploit this to find out where WHICH appears in the message.
