Patient A is a 36 year old gravida 3,
para 2 who seeks medical attention from her
obstetrician due to slight bright red vaginal
bleeding without complaint of pain. The obstetrical
patient is 30 weeks gestation with a documented
LMP August 8th 2020. Her
prenatal history includes one previous
cesarean section delivery due to breech
presentation with no complications. Also, one early
ectopic pregnancy ten years prior, treated with
Methotrexate and resolved without complication. The patient is
notably anxious, alert and oriented with all vital signs
stable. Fetal heart rate 140 beats per minute.
The ultrasound technician performs an
abdominal ultrasound scan stat. The US
reveals a diagnosis of placenta previa. Due
to the obstetrical complication the physician recommends rest with
avoidance of exercise and sexual intercourse. The plan of
care includes close monitoring of the remainder of pregnancy with a
need for additional ultrasound scans, avoidance of unnecessary
colposcopy exams as well as potential cesarean
section delivery if bleeding persists.
