Understanding both balanced scorecard in the health care system
of operations and the evidence-based practice to offer best patient
care, both have significant attributes to health care
organizations. The American Physical Therapy Association (2020)
suggest that evidence-based practice requires the best available
evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values and circumstances
related to patient management. This in turn allows for best care
given to following extensive data analysis and program development
in which processes and policy procedurals can be implemented.
Increase patient care and decrease morbidity are examples of how
end-results from evidence-base practices can promote health care
organizations to do more than just service the ill. Evidence-based
projects can be provided by clinical and non-clinical team members
that solve a common goal of patient care.
Reynolds (2002) suggest the balance scorecard uses a framework
and core principles to translate an organization's mission and
strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures and
strategically aligned initiatives. Balance scorecards along
with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) can align theses core
principles and values into the evidence-based practices as a guide
on how to conduct the research and maintain integrity and honesty.
Utilizing a balance scorecard allows for monitoring financial
metrics and project outcomes from external observers but also
internal management of the organization. The ability to
development, maintain and execute a balance scorecard using KPIs
allows for transparency on the progress both fruitful and damaging
to the organization. There are many attributes to having a balance
scorecard that allows evaluating evidence-based projects, and none
more than transparency and growth of the projects as it progresses
the many stages throughout until completion.

“The creators of these performance measurement systems and
measurement methods are actually looking for sophisticated ways to
reconcile work-based behavior in the particular organization with
its overall strategic goals. In this context, the measurement
allows managers to determine whether the planned events are being
implemented in practice, whether the activity is improving and, if
so, whether the organizational activity is secure for a long period
of time”. (Banabakova, 2018). The role of a balanced score card in
evaluating in implementation of an evidenced-based project is to
monitor with the intent to ensure factors implemented in changes
are efficient to all tiers of health care. A balanced score card
allows management to make necessary changes and resort to other
solutions to reach organizational goals. Having recognition of
progress in a project due to wanting real-time workflow being
equivalent to the organization’s timeline. When evaluating
implementations, the balance scorecard can provide notifications of
successes and non-productive factors. “The performance
evaluation system, based on BSC, provides a basis for the proper,
optimal and successful implementation of the organization’s
strategy and creates
a framework for individuals
to find new perspectives for their activities and organization. The
BSC has been widely applied in manufacturing, service,
non-government and government organizations, and
significant effects have been reported by organizations in many cases”.
(Nazari-Shirkouhi, 2020). Balanced scoreboards are also utilized
for finances as well. At my current employment, a balanced score
card is utilized to monitor how progressive the office is as well
as productivity of revenue cycle. Management is able to pull
reports and make necessary changes to the office. Independently, it
is my responsibility to make changes to manage my doctor’s
office.
