A voltage source has an equivalent voltage of 480 VAC with 20%Total Harmonic Distortion THD. Find the RMS voltage of thefundamental frequency. [The equivalent voltage is the square rootof the sum of the squares of the fundamental voltage and voltage ofthe harmonics. The THD is the square root of the sum of the squaresof the higher order harmonics divided by the fundamental voltage. From these relations the fundamental voltage is found to be 471VAC. Harmonics in the line cause power quality problems andinduction motor upsets. The harmonics can be reduced or eliminatedwith the use of inductors.]
