A reservoir having a capacity of 20 x 106 m' is to be sited in a valley of Sg. Pusu, near IIUM Gombak campus. The river has the following characteristics: width 10 m, bed slope 1 in 3000, discharge 87 m³/s (assumed to be constant) and depth 5 m. The river boundary is alluvial (Dso = 0.3 mm, ps=2650 kg/m³). The kinematic viscosity of water is 1.1 x 106 m²/s. Assuming a rectangular channel and based on Bagnold's method, estimate the time which would elapse before the reservoir capacity is reduced to half its original capacity. (20 marks)
