A 1500 m commercial steel pipeline originates in a reservoir and terminates in a 0.6 m outlet diameter nozzle ( K₁ = 0.40, based on pipeline velocity). The nozzle discharges to the atmosphere. The nozzle is 60 m below the reservoir water level, and the pipeline has seventeen 90° standard elbows (K₁ = 0.21) and two fully open gate valves (each at K₁ = 0.03). There is one sharp-edged entrance. The desired flow rate is 120 m³/min. Standard pipe sizes are available in multiples of 10 mm, i.e. 50 mm, 60 mm, 70 mm and so on. 1. Determine the smallest standard pipe size that can be used. Provide your answer in metres. 2. Determine the resulting pressure drop in Pascals.
