TASK 1
Plot the soil profile as interpreted from the SI report as givenin Appendix. The profile should consist ofestimated/correlated:
1. SPT-No value
2. Soil classification
3. Soil consistency
4. Soil properties (total & effective c and f, dry &saturated unit weight, and Cc & Cr)
5. Groundwater level.
TASK 2
You are required to design an individual shallow foundation fortwo types of office:
A. A single-storey office
B. A double-storey office
Two criteria must be included into your design, which are:
1. Loading
i) Estimate the working load (WL) to be transferred to theground for all types of the office
ii) If the loading is directly applied at the center of thefooting.
iii) If the loading is applied eccentrically but vertically tothe center of footing where e = 0.16m at length direction(L-direction).
iv) Consider the self-weight of the footing (unit weight = 30kN/m3 ) and weight of soil above the footing.
2. Your designs are required to meet 2 specifications:
i) The ultimate bearing capacity of the soil with Factor ofSafety = 2.5
ii) The total settlement limit is 50mm.
Draw the layout of each footing for the two different workingloads.
TASK 3
You are required to design pile foundation for three differentworking loads:
A. 300 kN
B. 500 kN
C. 800 kN.
Three criteria must be included into your design, which are:
1. Loading
i) The loading is at the center of the pile cap
ii) Consider the self-weight of the pile
2. Pile size
i) If the pile size is 200mm x 200mm (Grade 30)
ii) If the pile size is 250mm x 250mm (Grade 35)
iii) If the pile size is 350mm x 350mm (Grade 40)
3. Your designs are required to meet 3 specifications:
i) The ultimate bearing capacity of the soil with Global Factorof Safety = 2.0 and Partial Factor of Safety = 1.5 and 3.0
ii) The individual pile total settlement limit is 25mm for pilediameter less than 250mm or 10% of effective pile diameter morethan 250mm.
iii) The group pile total settlement limit is 50mm.
Draw the layout of each pile cap for the three different workingload.
