1.10 A 304 stainless steel cryogenic valve body having a mass of 12 kg (26.5 lb) is to be cooled from 300 K (80°F) to 80 K (-315.7°F). Determine the energy that must be removed from the valve body, using the Debye model. The Debye temperature for 304 stainless steel is = 320 K (576°R), and the gas constant is 150.28 J/kg-K (0.0359 Btu/lb-R). If the valve body is cooled using liquid nitrogen at the NBP, determine the volume of liquid nitrogen that will be evaporated during the process. The density for saturated liquid nitrogen at the NBP is 807.3 kg/m³ (50.40 lb/ft³).
