For a Race Engine, design a crank pin dimension for a plain carbon steel centre crankshaft of a single acting four stroke single cylinder engine based on data in Table 5. It was measured that when the crank has turned through 35° from the top dead centre (TDC), the pressure on the piston is 1 N/mm² and the torque on the crank is maximum. Assume any other data required for the design. Consider the maximum thrust force and the maximum twisting torque condition in your design process. Table 5: Engine information for crank shaft design Specification Values 2000 Engine speed, N (rpm) Cylinder stroke, S (mm) 600 400 2.5 Cylinder bore, B (mm) Maximum cylinder gas pressure, p (N/mm²) Indicated mean effective pressure, imep (N/mm²) Weight of flywheel pulley, (kN) Connecting rod length to crank radius, I/r Total belt pull, (kN) 0.5 50 5 6.5 (25 Marks) [CO3, PO3, C6]
