A portable crane is used to pick up a shipping container. Before it picks up the container, it puts down it "outrigger" feet to stabilize itself. There are 4 outriggers total (two front, two back). The front and back rows of outriggers are separated by a distance of L₁. The crane's own weight is WCrane, and is located at a distance "d". from the back row of outriggers. The weight of the shipping container is WLoad. All other weights can be ignored. The container being lifted is a distance of L₂ in front of the front row of outriggers. d=2 ft L₁ = 18.7 ft L₂= 25.5 ft WCrane = 53.9 k W Load = 14 k When the crane is picking up the container weighing 14 k, what is the force that EACH of the TWO front outrigger feet are placing on the ground? Hint: solve this problem as a 2D problem (looking at the crane from the side), and then divide your answer by 2 to divide it up between the two front outrigger feet.
