At a large festival there are constantly 1000 employees active. To make sure that these em- ployees stay motivated, they regularly switch to another activity. There are three activities, namely security, sales and cleaning. From past experience, the organiser knows exactly how many employees must be doing every activity at any point in time. Hence, the organisation uses every half hour the following table to determine how the employees switch activity, since this way the requirements are approximated in the best way. from to security sales cleaning security sales 0.4 0.3 0.1 0.4 0.5 0.3 cleaning 0.2 0.1 0.7 The numbers in the first column mean that every half hour, the employees doing security switch to another activity as follows: 4 out of 10 keep on doing security, 1 out of 10 switch to sales and 5 out of 10 switch to cleaning. At the start of the festival 500 employees start doing security, 400 start doing sales and 100 start cleaning. (a) Calculate how many employees are doing security once the festival is running a bit more than one hour. (b) Calculate how many employees are cleaning on the long run. You can approximate this number by assuming that the festival lasts infinitely long. Remark: If the number of employees for a certain activity is not a multiple of 10 a rounded number of employees switch position. Hence, possibly you also have to round your answer(s).
