Unit 1 Assignment: Creating a Puzzle Follow the assignment instructions and review the rubric: In this assignment you will use what you have learned in this unit on polar coordinates and complex numbers to create a puzzle. I have included an example of a complex number puzzle below for help in creating your own puzzle. See the original puzzle and then the solution. Please note that the sample puzzle doesn't include any entries related to polar coordinates and polar equations, but in your puzzle you will need these as well. See below for the parameters of the puzzle you will create: • Your puzzle should include 9 squares (a 3 x 3 layout). With this layout you will end up needing 12 matching pairs for a total of 24 entries as well as 12 additional entries that are just extras to fill in all sides of each square. • For your 12 matching pairs you must include: o 2 for polar → rectangular coordinates o 2 for absolute value of complex numbers o 2 for polar → rectangular equations o 2 for finding powers of imaginary and/or complex numbers o 4 for operations with complex numbers (one each of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) • You should submit a picture of the original puzzle, a picture of the completed puzzle (solved), and all work for each matching pair showing how each one fits together.
Grading criteria Create 3 x 3 puzzle Include the solved puzzle Include 12 matching pairs Student creates a 3 x 3 square puzzle with 9 equal squares and includes a picture of it 5 points Overall Effort Student includes a picture of the solved puzzle showing how all matching pairs go together 5 points Show work on how the 12 matching pairs fit together Includes all work on each matching pair to show how they fit together correctly 6 points Student creates a different Student doesn't create a size puzzle puzzle or doesn't include a 2 points picture of their puzzle 0 points according to Student includes 12 Student includes 7- matching pairs, 11 matching pairs, according to assignment parameters, in puzzle 4 points assignment parameters, in puzzle 6 points Student follows all directions correctly and produces a clear and easy to understand assignment 3 points Student includes a picture of a partially solved puzzle showing how some of the matching pairs go together 3 points Includes work on 7- 11 matching pairs to show how they fit together correctly 4 points Student follows most directions correctly and produces a mostly clear and easy to understand assignment Student doesn't include a picture of the solved puzzle 0 points Student includes 1- 6 matching pairs, according to assignment parameters, in puzzle 2 points Includes work on 1- 6 matching pairs to show how they fit together correctly 2 points Student follows less than fifty percent of the directions correctly and their assignment is hard to understand 1 points Student doesn't include any matching pairs in puzzle 0 points Includes no work on each matching pair to show how they fit together correctly 0 points Student doesn't follow directions correctly and produces a very unorganized assignment that can't be understood
