Q1. A baseball pitcher can throw a baseball at a speed of 150 km/h. The ball is thrown with a purely horizontal trajectory towards the batter at home plate, which is 18.5 metres away. When the pitcher first releases the ball, it is 2 metres above the ground. a) Assuming that air resistance can be ignored, calculate the vertical distance the ball falls before it reaches the batter. (3) b) If the pitcher made this same throw in a flat, open field, how far would the ball travel horizontally before hitting the ground? (3) (6 marks)
