0 Sustainability Research Paper Directions | Rubric_Rev7_26_21.pdf|(61.271 KB) Attached Files: Overview: The purpose of the assignment is to show you understand what is meant by the term sustainability, and that you can apply it to one of our most essential resources on Earth- water. Your paper will investigate three examples of unsustainable water use in three different areas affecting Americans (individual homes, agriculture, and business) and suggest solutions for each of these that could influence Americans to alter their behavior to help sustain this resource. Things that should be included in the paper: • Demonstrating that you understand the term sustainability and can apply it appropriately. A solid good paragraph is expected here and can be used in the introduction • Your paper should provide three specific examples of unsustainable water practices in the U.S. Please choose one specific example from each of three areas: individual homes, agriculture, and business Your paper should provide examples of solutions that Americans and businesses can adapt to alter their behavior to sustain water (from the unsustainable examples you chose for your paper) Please shoot for one full page for each unsustainable practice example and solution. • Your paper should provide a conclusion that summarizes the major points of your paper. Provide at least three quality references (use reputable sites, like .gov, or edu) and include a references page using APA citation guidelines. You should include citations (references) in the body of the text, where you use the information from your sources (see these websites for how to include In-text citations: "The basics" and "author/authors". To include references at the end of the paper see this website for examples of how to format. Other reference styles can also be found using the menu on the left of the links above. Maps and other figures should be labeled as Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., and should be referenced in the text. • Grammar and Organization. Your paper should be about five pages, typed and double-spaced, with one-inch margins and no larger than a 12-point font (including a cover page and a reference page). • Be sure to review the attached rubric to see how points will be assigned for your paper. . Plagiarism Checker: Please be aware that you will be submitting your paper through a plagiarism checker (see directions on the assignment page). It is important to understand that you can not just cut and paste words and information from the Internet. Instead, use the ideas given, and put them in your own words, and then credit the source for giving you those ideas. The full information for the source should be given on your resource page. If you simply cut and paste huge areas of your paper and even if you give the source credit, you will not receive full credit. Copying direct text should be limited to a sentence or two at most, and should never replace your own words. A big part of writing a paper like this is showing the reader that you understand and can contribute your own ideas to this topic. So, research the topic well, understand it well, and then write it- and save copied text to just reinforce your points and to give them credibility. Quality Sources: Please also be careful of the sources you use. Websites ending with .org, .gov, .edu are generally more credible. Personal blogs, Wikipedia, and other sources are questionable and should be avoided for direct quotes. They are fine to give you ideas for your paper but do additional research on more credible sites to ensure you are writing a solid paper. How to Submit: When you are ready to submit your paper, click on the link below titled "Submit Your Research Paper Here". Your paper needs to be submitted as either a .docx or .pdf format so Blackboard can properly read it. Deadline: Please check the date on your course schedule for the submission deadline. If you have any questions, please contact your instructor.

0 More Sustainability Paper Advice Advice on how to complete paper (or, more importantly, what I want to see as the grader!): • Cover Page: Give the name of your paper, your name, the date and course this is. One page. • (Half-page): First paragraph: Google and research sustainability to get a good idea of what this means to help with #1. You want to define sustainability in your own words. This should take up much of the first paragraph of your paper. Also, in your first paragraph, you want to set the paper up to show your reader what the paper is about. So, after you introduce sustainability, you can add a line like, "This paper will discuss the various ways that water is not sustainably used in our individual homes, agriculture, and in business in America, and some ideas in how we can resolve that to make our water use more sustainable across these areas". Usually, this paragraph should be at least half of a page. • (One page): Your second paragraph should be dedicated exclusively to identifying one unsustainable water practice in our individual homes, and then provide possible solutions. The best way to do this is Google and research this, by searching for "unsustainable water use in homes". You will see many pages that you can read through. Find one good example, explain it well, and then provide ideas on how we can make this more sustainable. This paragraph should be about a full page. Make sure you provide great details, and feel free to include pictures, diagrams, etc., to help make your points. • (One page): Your third paragraph should be dedicated exclusively to identifying one unsustainable water practice in agriculture. Use all of the advice above, but apply it to this area. This paragraph should be about a full page. (One page): Your fourth paragraph should be dedicated exclusively to identifying one unsustainable water practice in business. Use all of the advice above, but apply it to this area. You can also apply this area to energy production. For example, a business could be creating electricity. This paragraph should be about a full page. (Half-page) Your final paragraph should end your paper by summarizing the main points in your paper and ending with thoughtful commentary in such a way that your reader is inspired to learn even more about this issue. This paragraph should be about a half-page (One page) Lastly, you also need to include a resource page. To get full credit, you need at least three resources. This should not be hard to do! I would expect you probably will have at least six, if not more. But, for sure include at least three. These should be in APA format. If you need help with this, you can use the links on the assignment page for more information. The resource page should be on its own page, the last page. Hopefully, after all of this, you can see how the paper can be about six-seven pages, and maybe even a few more if you include pictures and diagrams.
