Often times in class I give a quiz where I ask the student to write out an answer to the question: "What does the Goldman Equation explain?". Below are answers to this question provided by students from previous semesters. All of these answers are wrong and/or incomplete. For this homework assignment, please explain why each of these answers is wrong or incomplete. Then, at the bottom of the page, using your own words (don't copy), answer the question "What does the Goldman Equation explain?". 1. Explains the overall membrane potential of all ions in the cell. 2. Goldman is Nernst with the addition of permeability of each ion. 3. That the permeability of each ion (inside/outside) is relative to the cells total permeability. 4.
