What Would You Do? What Would You Not Do? Case Study 1 Yusuke Urameshi is at the office with fever and chills, urinary frequency, and painful and difficult urination. The physician suspects that Mr. Urameshi has prostatitis and orders a clean-catch urine specimen for a complete urinalysis, including a microscopic examination of the sediment. Mr. Urameshi tries to collect the specimen but is able to collect only 5 mL of urine. He says that he is worried about what is wrong with him and he thinks his nervousness is making it hard to get a specimen. Mr. Urameshi says that it is probably just as well because he did not understand how to cleanse himself, and he is not sure that he did it right. What Would You Do? What Would You Not Do? Case Study 2 Nora Sheridan is at the clinic with urinary frequency, urgency, dysuria, and blood in the urine. During the past 6 months, Nora has been having problems with UTIS. She wants to know why these infections continue to occur and whether she can do anything to prevent them. Nora says that she has a lot of deadlines at work and that it is difficult to find time to come to the medical office. She says that her drugstore sells urine testing strips. Nora wants to know whether she could get a bottle of the strips and test her urine at home when she is having problems. That way she could just contact the office when she has positive test results, and the physician could call in a prescription for an antibiotic for her. What Would You Do? What Would You Not Do? Case Study 3 Rita Lavelle is 8.5 months pregnant and is at the clinic for a prenatal appointment. Lately, she has been having difficulty obtaining a urine specimen at the medical office because of her enlarged abdomen. At her last appointment, the office provided her with a urine specimen container so that she could obtain her specimen more easily at home. Rita brings in a first-voided urine specimen in a glass jar. She says her dog chewed up the specimen container from the office, so she used an empty peanut butter jar. The urine testing results from her specimen show that her glucose level is normal, but her protein level is 4+. Until this time, her urine test results all have been normal. Rita is concerned about her baby. She says that she was cleaning her bathroom cabinet yesterday and came across a pregnancy test; just for the fun of it, she decided to run the test. The results were negative, and now she is worried that something is wrong. Rita says that she has not been sleeping as well at night and that she has noticed more Braxton- Hicks contractions, but the baby has been kicking and moving as usual.
