PART 1 (Questions 1-7) Pollution and Economic Development. Grossman and Krueger (1995) were interested in finding the relationship between a country's per capita income and its mean annual pollution levels in air and water sources. Suppose you are a researcher trying to replicate their findings and you collect data from different pollution monitoring sites in cities across multiple countries to estimate the following equation: Y=B+BGDP+ B₂GDP2 +B₂COAST + B, DESERT +8, CENTER+ BRESID+BIND+B POPDEN + u where Y represents the mean pollution concentration (measured in micrograms per liter). GDP is the per capita GDP of the country where each site is located. COAST, DESERT, and CENTER are dummy variables that indicate the location of each site: COAST takes the value of 1 if the site is in a coastal city (0 otherwise). DESERT is 1 if the site is in a desert (0 otherwise). CENTER takes the value of 1 in sites in the center of a city (0 otherwise). RESID and IND are dummy variables that indicate whether a site is located in a residential area or an industrial area: RESID takes the value 1 if the site is in a residential area (0 otherwise), and IND takes the value 1 if the site is in an industrial area (0 otherwise). POPDEN is the population density (measured in persons per square mile) of the city where the site is located.

Question 6 Suppose you would like to test whether the variables COAST, DESERT, CENTER, and RESID are jointly significant. What is the null hypothesis? A) Ho: B3 B4 Ps Bo=0 B) Ho: B3 Bo B7 B8 = 0 C) Ho: B30, B6 0,87 0,88 0 D) Ho: 330, B40, B5 0,6 0 Answer What to [Select] A B с D [Select] in [Salact]

Question 6 Suppose you would like to test whether the variables COAST, DESERT, CENTER, and RESID are jointly significant What is the null hypothesis? A) Ho: B₂B4-Br-Bo-0 B) Ho: B₂B-B7-Bs-0 Ho: Pa D) Ho: Ba 0, Answer. [Select] 0, 0,37 0,0 0 0, 0, Be 0 What test would you need to perform ✓ [Select] What is the condition under which you One-sided t-test F-test Select] 12 pts Chi-squared test Two-sided t-test Suppose you run the test and get a test statistic of 2.7. Do you reject the null hypothesis at the 1% level? I Select 1

Supp you would he to rest whether the variables COAST, DESERT, CENTER, and RESID All, P-P--P-0 He: Ar-A-3-3-0 Ho: B₂0, 0, 0, 0 Di Ha 0, 0, 0, 0 Answer: 1 Select] What test would you need to perform? [Select] What is the condition under which you reject the null at a 1% level [Select] Suppose you run the test and get a test statistic of 2.7. Do you reje [Select] test statistic <3.32 test statistic> 3.32 test statistic < 2.37 test statistic > 2.37 22 m level?

Answer: [Select] What test would you need to perform? [Select] What is the condition under which you reject the null at a 1% level? [Select] Suppose you run the test and get a test statistic of 2.7. Do you reject the null hypothesis at [Select] W Yes No
