A 77-year-old male with a medical history including treated hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and mild cognitive impairment, required 15 days of treatment in the ICU for septic shock due to faecal peritonitis from a perforation of the sigmoid colon. After being moved to the surgical floor, he experienced an invisible fall from his bed suffering from acute subdural hematoma with hemorrhagic contusion, wherein she underwent a craniotomy to evacuate the hematoma. Twelve days after this procedure, during which he received propofol, morphine, and dexamethasone, he is still in a coma with the best motor response to abnormal left-sided flexion. He is still receiving mechanical ventilation. A/C mode, Vt 400 ml, RR 30 B/M, PEEP 8, FiO2 50% The unanimous opinion of the attending physicians is that he will most likely not be able to functional recovery.
