CASE STUDY #1 . In your employment as a professional engineer, you discover that two employees who supervise the delivery and storage of materials on the job site (and who are also engineers) have been involved in "kickback" schemes with suppliers. • The suppliers invoice your employer for materials that have not been delivered, your colleagues validate the invoices, and the suppliers pay them a hidden commission. Obviously, these schemes violate criminal law. . In addition, your colleagues have broken clauses in your provincial Code of Ethics. Which are they? CASE STUDY #1 • To what types of disciplinary action have they exposed themselves as a result? Suppose you confront them, and they promise they will discontinue these schemes if you agree not to reveal them. If you agree, would your silence be consistent with the Code of Ethics? Could any disciplinary action be brought against you? • Describe the course of action you should follow. . Would your actions be different if your fellow employees were not professional engineers ?
