Question 7 a) A 9 mm diameter steel cable is subjected to a tensile load. The extension on 20 m of cable due to the loading is 1 mm. If Young's Modulus for the material is E = 210 GN/m2, calculate the load. b) The double lap riveted joint shown below is subjected to a load of 100 KN. The ultimate shear stress for each rivet is 360 MN/m2. A factor of safety of 5 is required. Calculate the diameter of the rivets for maximum allowable shear stress. 100 KN
