8. As a judge, you are responsible for determining sentences that will both punish and rehabilitate offenders. You believe that education is an important component of rehabilitation. You know that for the population of all offenders, the average number of years of education completed is 9.5 with a standard deviation of 2.1. You want to know more about the educational history of the offenders who come into your court so you take a sample of 49 offenders and ask each offender how many years of school he or she has completed. The average years of education for your sample of 49 offenders is 10. a. What is the average distance you expect to observe between the population mean and sample mean for your sample of 49 offenders? b. c. Find the z score corresponding to your sample mean. Based on your z-score and the unit normal table, what is the probability of obtaining a sample mean of 10 or greater? Is this a rare or common occurrence? Do you think the offenders that come into your courtroom are more educated than other offenders? Why or why not? (Note, you do not need to complete a formal hypothesis test here, but you should talk about probability)
