3. We expect the antimicrobial Triclosan to lower one's chance of having a staph infection, but a study found the opposite. Microbiologists swabbed the noses of 90 people and recorded which had detectable levels of Triclosan and staph bacteria. The results are in the table below. Triclosan No Triclosan Total Staph 24 15 39 No Staph 13 38 51 a) What proportion of those with triclosan have the staph bacteria? What proportion of those without triclosan have the staph bacteria? What is the sample difference in proportions? P₁ = P₂ = P₁-P₂ = [13 pts] Total 37 53 90 b) We wish to test if there is evidence that people with triclosan are more likely to have staph bacteria. What are the null and alternate hypotheses? p-value: c) In StatKey, do a Randomization Hypothesis Test for the Difference in Proportions to find the p-value. Hints: Click "Edit Data" to enter your sample proportion info. Use "Reallocation for the Randomization Method. Based on your alternate hypothesis, decide if you should use a left-tailed, 2- tailed, or right-tailed test. Edit the cutoff value along the horizontal axis to be the value of p₁-p2. The p-value will be above the cutoff value you edited.
