Bernoulli's Equation is a powerful conservation of energy law for incompressible flow (most fluid flow and gas flow with low Mach number). Consider the pipe below. Water is flowing in the pipe and mercury (p = 13.59 g/cm³) is in the u-tube. The discharge from the pipe is 4.5 x 10-³ m³/s. Find the flow velocity at the wide and narrow portions of the pipe. What is the pressure difference between these two points? Find h for the Mercury in the u-shaped tube. Hints: As the fluid approaches the vena contracta (point of smallest diameter and therefore maximum velocity), the pressure increases slightly and then drops suddenly as the vena contracta is passed. Use Bernouli's Equation for all three questions. The Mercury changes its potential energy due to the pressure drop associated with the constriction of the water. This results in the difference in height (h) of the mercury. Assume constant density for both fluids. 40,0 cm² h 10.0 cm²
