Googly Eyes (GG and Gg) is a dominat condition common inthe Muppet community as is Loud Laughing (LL and Ll). Beloware genotypic crosses of Muppet parents expressing these alleles indifferent combinations.
To practice using Punnet Squares, please complete all tenmonohybrid cross scenarios.
When writing genotypes and phenotypes, always record the mostdominant characteristic first, followed by the recessive. When you record phenotypic ratios for a monohybrid cross, there areonly two possible phenotypes - either the dominant phenotype or therecessive phenotype. So you do not need to indicate thegenoptype, simply put the dominant number first, followed by therecessive number.
For example: So, forScenario 1 when you cross genotypes Gg x gg, the Punnet Squarewould look something like this:
G
g
g
Gg
gg
g
Gg
gg
Remember that genotype describes which genes (dominant orrecessive) an organism has for a particular trait. Thepossible genotype outcomes for the cross of these two parents forthis trait are Gg, Gg, gg, and gg. As such, the genotypicratio is written 2Gg:2gg.
And remember that phenotype is how something looks or how thetrait is physically presented.
The possible phenotypes for Googly Eyes are the dominant traitof Google Eyes (GG or Gg) or the recessive trait of no Googly Eyes(gg). So, you count up the number of dominant traits and thenumber of recessive traits and present them as a ratio.
In this case there are 2 dominant (Gg and Gg) and 2 recessive(gg and gg).
The phenotypic ratio would then be 2:2 (or reduced to 1:1) whichmeans that 50% of the offspring should have Googly Eyes and 50% ofthe offspring should not have Googly Eyes.
