Assignment Details 202205_BLAW_201_J1: Legal Environment of Business 1. We often read in media - the news that the U.S. Supreme Court is composed of Justices who have specific political leanings from one another. Yet, in this case, the opinion was unanimous! • In this Discussion, please briefly discuss why you think that the Justices all agreed with one another on this case? They all sided with the Defendant, why? A "unanimous" opinion means that they ALL AGREED that the Defendant's rights were violated by the government. (You will also see that there were concurring opinions. A "concurring" opinion means that while the Justice agreed with the majority, the concurring Justice thinks that the "way" that the Court arrived at the final conclusion could have included different law, or different interpretation of law - although they all ended up agreeing. ) 2. After reading the page discussing the facts of the case, the "question" and the U.S. Supreme Court's conclusion, what do you think of the outcome of the case and why? 3. Listen to at least 15-20 minutes of the audio in the link above. This is the argument by the attorneys before the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Jones case, before the Court had made up its mind. • After listening to at least 15-20 minutes of the audio (or longer) what about the Court hearing surprised you, or that you found was unexpected in some way? Briefly describe your answer. 4. Post a question about the published case or about the audio recording to the class, and reply to one other student's posted question. • In sum, ask a question, reply to a question.
