In operations, supply chain, procurement, and materialmanagement courses, there is a strong emphasis on inventorymanagement and its impact on working capital. In thesecourses, including BUSI 2405, there are a number of models andformulas used to predict the consumption of material and/orgoods. Assuming these are good models and formulas forinventory management, why do so many organizations lose quite a bitmoney due to obsolete or dated inventories? In other words, with all of the courses, seminars, and etc…, that are available tooperations personnel, why is it often not well managed (andconsequently more costly) in real-world practice?
