Problem #1: A pump has a power input of 2 hp and is used to supply liquid water to a field at an elevation 50 ft above the pump inlet. Water enters the pump system at 14.7 psia and 70 °F, and leaves the discharge pipe at 71 °F and 14.7 psia. Velocity of the water is negligible. Considering steady-state, steady-flow operation and neglecting any heat transfer, determine: a) the increase in specific potential energy of the water from the pump inlet to outlet in both Btu/lbm and lb-ft/lbm, b) the increase in specific enthalpy Ah of the water from the pump inlet to outlet in both Btu/lbm and lb-ft/lbm, c) the mass flow rate of liquid water to the field (lbm/min), d) the volumetric flow rate of the water to the field in ft³/min (CFM) and gallon/min (GPM). Outlet: Liquid H₂O 71 °F, 14.7 psia Wpump=2 hp z = 50 ft Inlet: Liquid H₂O 70 °F, 14.7 psia
