A transmission system is to consist of a variable-capacity pumpand a fixed-capacity motor. The circuit is to deliver a constantpower of 45 kW over a speed range of 4000 to 8000 rev/min. Themaximum permissible pressure is 172 bar and the efficiency oftransmission of the pipes and valves between the pump and motor isestimated as 60%. Assuming a volumetric efficiency of 90% and anoverall efficiency of 80% for both pump and motor, determinesuitable maximum capacities for both units, maximum oil flow rate, minimum pressure at the pump delivery and the motor torqueassociated with this pressure. Assume a pump shaft speed of 1460rev/min.
Since the speed range quoted above is high for hydraulic motors, determine the new capacity requirements of units employed in thecircuit shown in the diagram to perform exactly the same duty.
