The electron will absorb the photon and the electron will be ionized. The ionized electron will possess kinetic energy equal to the difference between the energy of the photon and the binding energy for the electron. The photon will be absorbed and the electron will complete the transition from n=1 to n-infinity. The electron will then remain at n = infinity.
