Write a response for Case 1:
You work for a start-up tech company called TechBytes indowntown Vancouver, where the hours are long and staff have reallygreat facilities for fun. There’s a state-of-the-art latte machinein the staff kitchen, weekly “take out” lunch parties, sleep pods, and arcade game room for much-needed breaks. As a newly hiredsupervisor, you noticed that some of these items aren’t gettingmuch use. After you speak to a few of your colleagues, you spoke toyour boss about it.
You: Hi Sandy. Do you have time to talk about a few things?
Sandy: You bet. What’s up?
You: I have noticed that a lot of perks we talked about when Iwas hired aren’t getting fully utilized by staff.
Sandy: Like what?
You: Well, I talked to Sam about the sleep pods, as I heard hewas the sleep master on site, and he said he won’t use them now dueto COVID concerns.
Sandy: Well, we did stop permitting the use of the sleep podsduring COVID, but now that everyone is triple vaccinated, there’sno longer a restriction on them.
You: I think he’s worried that they aren’t sanitary.
Sandy: Oh, well you can let him know that they are cleaned everyday, and we’ve put disinfecting spray and wipes by each sleep podso that everyone can take any extra precautions that they want whenthey go to use it. We also have them cleaned every night by ourcleaners, which is much more often than we used to.
You: Okay, I will let him and other staff know that. I also havea question about the latte machine. I heard staff complaining thatthey are having to spend money at Starbucks when we have a greatmachine here on site.
Sandy: Hmm… Good point. We turned the machine off during COVIDto prevent people from gathering in the kitchen. I guess we can getthat running again. Hold on and I’ll get my assistant to get itworking. Anything else?
You: Yes, two of the three arcade machines aren’t workingproperly. Is there someone I can call to get them serviced?
Sandy: Yeah, I noticed that yesterday. I called the company whodoes that, and they are scheduled to come on Thursday at the end ofthe day, so after the long weekend, staff should be able to playagain. I love playing Pacman. How about you?
You: All the retro games are fun for me, but Donkey Kong is myjam.
Sandy: Fair enough. Okay, well have a good week.
You: Wait, one more thing. I’d like to get the weekly “take out”lunch parties back up and running.
Sandy: Okay. You may get some resistance here, as people havebeen hesitant to sit together since COVID.
You: That’s okay. We can give people the option to sit on theroof deck when whether permits and be social, or take their lunchback to their desks. What do you think?
Sandy: Great idea. Why don’t you send out a message toeveryone?
Task: In your own words, write a message in proper memo format, using the message planning sheet as a guide and consider useheadings and lists as appropriate to aid your message (do notinclude a title page and save your document with an appropriatefile name). You may invent any additional details as long as theyare realistic and in keeping with the case. Do not copy any phrasesor sentences from the case, and do not share your work orcollaborate with others, as this could result in a 0% grade.
