After a high school girl in South Carolina refused ateacher’s order to put away her cell phone or leave class, asheriff’s deputy dragged the girl out of her chair, threw her onthe floor, and handcuffed her. A classmate, Niya Kenny, stood upand swore at the officer, telling him he was acting unfairly. Bothgirls were arrested and charged with violating a state criminal lawthat prohibits disturbing “in any way or in any place the studentsor teachers of any school” or “acting in an obnoxious manner.” Onwhat grounds could this statute be challenged?
