Homework 4A Problem 1 (2 points): A 5.5"x5.5" dense # 1 Douglas Fir post is used to suspend one corner of a balcony from the roof framing. The expected load on this post is 5000 pounds. The balcony load is imparted to the post by means of two 2x10 joists that "sandwich" the post, each being cut into the post by 0.5". The two joists are bolted to the post with a 0.75" diameter bolt through the entire assembly. Assume that a 0.875" diameter hole is drilled through the entire assembly to accommodate the bolt. Further, assume that the adjustment factors CD. CM. C₁, and C₁, are all equal to 1.0. Is the tensile capacity of the post adequate to resist the load?
