Tom Daring had been employed by a national CPA firm for the lastseveral years. Recently, Tom was discharged for failing to pass theCPA test after several attempts. The CPA firm was satisfiedwith his performance, but company policy prohibited the retentionof anyone who could not be licensed as a certified publicaccountant.
Tom holds a degree in accounting and was an honours graduatefrom a well-known university. For several months he has beensearching for employment in the private industry where the CPAdesignation is not always a requirement. He has been to dozens ofunsuccessful interviews. He was fully qualified for thesepositions, but other applicants who are CPAs were selected to fillthe openings.
