The venom from pufferfish blocks voltage-gated sodium (Na+) channels on motoneurons. What effect will this have on the excitability of a neuron? The sodium-potassium pump will cause depolarization of the neuron. There will be an increased efflux of potassium, hyper polarizing the neuron. The neuron will not be depolarized in response to stimuli because there is no influx of sodium.
