focus on the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide specifically, but the exchange of nutrients and wastes in
general. This should include terms such as filtration and osmosis (and the important terms that we discussed in
class: net osmotic pressure and hydrostatic pressure). Be sure to adequately describe WHY each process
works and WHERE it works for full credit and include relative fluid pressure across the different spaces. You
may use a diagram as well if you would like. Please note this question is worth a lot of points. A detailed
description is warranted for full point value.
2) Compare the action potential of a skeletal muscle cell with the action potential that occurs in a cardiac
contractile muscle fiber. Explain the major difference between them, especially differences in the
depolarization process. Finally, explain the importance of the specialized action potential of contractile cardiac
muscle cells.
