Problem 5 (20 pts) Water flows from a reservoir through a 2.5 ft. diameter 300 ft. long pipeline (e= 0) to a turbine- generator unit and exits to a river that is 100 ft. below the reservoir surface. The flow rate is 90 ft³/s. Assume the total minor head loss from the entrance to the pipe and exit to the river is 8.35 feet. RECALL: 1 horsepower = 550 lb-ft/s, Vwater = 1.21 x 10³ ft²/s. Reservoir Turbine/Generator WT River (a) Calculate the velocity of the water in the pipe and determine if the flow is laminar or turbulent (5 pts.) (b) Calculate the major head loss in the 300 ft. length pipe (5 pts.)

(c) Compute the turbine head (6 pts.) (d) Calculate the power output of the turbine-generator in horsepower if the turbine- generator has an efficiency of 88% (4 pts.)
