One kind of e-book display consists of millions of very smallspheres that float in a thin fluid layer between two conducting, transparent plates. Each sphere is black on one side and white onthe other, and possesses an electric dipole moment directed fromthe white side to the black. When an electric field is appliedbetween the plates, the spheres rotate so that their dipole momentlines up with the field. Depending on the field's direction, eitherthe black or the white sides of the spheres can be madevisible. The dipole moment of the spheres can be modeled as two oppositecharges ofmagnitude 3.6×10−15 CC separated by adistance of 100 μm
What is the maximum possible torque on a sphere if the electricfield between the transparent plates is4.6×105 N/CN/C ?
