A 16 kg child is on a swing that hangs from 1.2 m long chains as shown in the figure below. What is her maximum speed if she swings out to a 45° angle?
HINT: Remember that you want to use conservation of energy for this problem. What is special about maximum height? (Remember it's a turnaround point.) There is a bit of geometry to do. You know how long the chains of the swing are, so how high above the lowest point is the seat of the swing when it is at its maximum height? Make sure to draw a picture and figure out the different lengths.
