One of the most recent teams I've been on was in my lastsemester's Human Resource Management course. By far, thisgroup was one of the best cooperating groups I've had and wasexcellent for teammates. I wanted to start with the aspectswe did well to receive a good grade on creating a fictitiousorganization project. To start, we reached out to one anotherto exchange phone numbers to set up an introductory meeting totouch base and get to know each other a little more. Withinthat meeting, we were able to trust each other a bit more and makeimportant decisions like choosing a team leader and splitting upwork tasks fairly. We wanted to split up tasks by slidessince it would be an oral slide presentation and you would have topresent your slide. We had great communication throughoutthis project which made working together easier, however, therewere some bumps along the road that we would have improved on.
In Chapter 3, there's a concept of having a consistent voicethroughout a document or project. One piece of advice I wouldlisten to would be to have that unity and structure throughout thepresentation. With our group, we had a main themevisual-wise, but all of our writing styles were a bitdifferent. It was a nice way to bring diversity, but again itwasn't very uniform. My second piece of advice was to makesure the team leader, in this case, I'm saying this against myself, would make separate meeting times for teammates who couldn't makeit to set meetings. We had a teammate who would work nightshifts and couldn't make it to most meetings, and we would justmessage his information, which was effective, but I believe havinga virtual meeting would have been more beneficial. Finally,my last piece of advice would be to create set expectations andcriteria for each task. While that seems time-consuming, thatway no one is surprised or disappointed by what a team memberthought was perfectly fine.
