In the four major US sports leagues, drafts are a form ofmonopsony power. Players can only play in the league for the teamthat drafted them for the first few years. As such, their salariesare artificially capped. Joe Burrow signed a 4 year/36 milliondollar contract with the Bengals after they picked him firstoverall in 2020. Had he been able to choose his team as a freeagent, the contract he signed would have likely been for 20-25million per year based on what most QBs are paid.
Discuss the pros and cons of drafts in professional sports, andexplain whether or not you believe a draft is a good idea. (For thelatter part of this, your grade will not be based on your opinionitself but how well you can argue that opinion)
Aim for your response to be about 5-7 sentencesoverall.
