A 200-mm wide, annealed copper strip with 25-mm thickness is fed through a rolling mill with two identical rollers, each 400 mm in diameter. The workpiece thickness is to be reduced to 22 mm in one pass at a roll speed of 50 rev/min. The annealed copper has a K value of 315 MPa and an n value of 0.54. The frictional coefficient between the rolls and the workpiece is assumed to be 0.15. (a) Determine if the friction is sufficient to permit the rolling operation to be conducted. (2 marks) (b) If so, calculate the rolling force, power and torque. (6 marks)
