A company treats the gases it produces to reduce the emission ofsulfur (in the form of SO2) into the atmosphere. Forthis, it uses an adsorption column having alumina as adsorbent.Knowing that the gaseous flow presents: volumetric flow of gas is100m3/h, specific mass 0.001 g/cm3. Thesulfur content in the gas stream at the column inlet is 0.00015 g/gof SO2 molecules. The adsorption column has a diameterof 35 cm and a height of 110 cm, and is filled with 42 kg ofadsorbent. Assume that the breakout time(tb=tu) is 6 hours and the total time is 8.2hours (at the inflection point), determine:
I) The saturation capacity of the adsorbent used.
II) The diameter and length in a new column, to treat the sameflow if the break time in the new column is 11.8 hours, andvolumetric flow equal to 250 m3/h.
