4. a) Calculate the water power input required for a i) rapid mix tank and ii) the first two compartments of a flocculation tank for a plant design flowrate of 0.050 m³/s given the following information: Average water temperature: 8 °C (Hint: will need to interpolate data in Table A-1 to find the viscosity) Rapid Mix Tank: One circular tank 1.0 m deep (H) Tank equivalent diameter is 0.56 m (T) Water depth below the impeller is H/3= B Detention time of 5 s Velocity gradient of 750 s¹ Turbine impeller with 6 flat blades, Np = 3.6 Flocculation Tank: One tank with tapered G in three compartments @ 60, 50, and 20 s¹ w/volume equal in each Detention time is 30 min Tank depth 3.5 m, compartment L=W= 2.93 m Water depth below the impeller is H/3-B Axial flow impeller, 3 blades, Np = 0.43 b) Would an impeller diameter of 0.25 or 0.5 m work better for the rapid mix tank? Would an impeller diameter of 1.5 or 2.0 m work better for the flocculation basin? c) Using the best choice of impeller diameter in each case, calculate the impeller speed for the i) rapid mix tank and ii) the first two compartments of the flocculation tank.
