QUESTION 1 25 points Save Answer Figure 1B shows the end wall of a warehouse designed to store dangerous chemicals. The warehouse is built using timber structural members. Seasoned Slash Pine of Grade F11, with a cross-section of 240x35mm is used for the corner wall studs. The height of the corner wall studs is 5.4m long. Check the capacity of the corner wall studs which are restrained at mid-height for buckling about the major axis. Minor axis buckling is prevented by noggings at 1.8m centres. The ends of the corner wall studs are held by two bolts. The warehouse is located in Australia north of the latitude 16°S where the average moisture content is 18%. The corner wall studs carry the following unfactored compressive loads: (a) Permanent load = 30kN, and (b) Imposed load applied for a period of a few days and at infrequent intervals and considered to be of five days duration = 50KN. In your calculations, assume that short-term (s), long term (₁) and combination (c) factors can be considered to be equal to zero and that the roof is non-trafficable.
