The dataset below reports sales tax revenue collections, the
sales tax rate, U.S. real GDP, and a binary variable indicating
years during recessions. This tax is currently imposed at a rate of
5.75% of retail price. The data span fiscal year 1996 to fiscal
year 2020. Please note that the fiscal year runs from July 1 of one
year to June 30 of the next year. Revenue is reported in
millions of dollars. The percent sales tax rate is reported as a
numeral instead of a proportion or percentage where, for instance,
5.00 is a 5% tax rate. These data were obtained from the Ohio
Department of Taxation. The GDP data are reported in billions of
dollars. These data are published by the Ohio Department of
Taxation and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
